I woke up this morning a little early to go see if the men had begun working on the generator of which they had. I was pretty excited to know that we would be getting electricity again. Typically, it seems like whenever something happens, the repair always takes the entire day so I didn’t expect it to be working until nightfall. Since there wasn’t much I could do, I worked in the office again for a few hours until I could help work on the generator.
On a positive note, I was excited since my pastor, Scott, was showing up today with his wife, Lindsay, and their two boys, Cameron and Ethan. I went with Carmen to the airport to see them as they arrived.
Later this evening, I heard that everything was finished. We were a little skeptical since the wires that were purchased for the repair were used wires and couldn’t be wound as tight as they needed to be. All in all, when we put everything back together and started the generator it worked fine. We didn’t have to do much troubleshooting and got the meters to display that it was putting out power. Within a few minutes, Roger walked outside to start switching over the breakers to give people power, but just as he did this, Brice started shouting at him from inside the generator room. He had seen a burst of sparks and the power stopped. Minutes later we found the problem; several wires had been rubbing inside the housing and we knew that we had to start over again which meant that these guys had to take another bus to Port au Prince on Friday and begin working again Saturday doing everything over again.
