I had my first Creole class today. Each year, Cara, the kindergarten teacher, teaches a beginners’ Creole course primarily for the teachers and anyone who wants to attend. We will be meeting each Wednesday so I have some words to practice for next Wednesday in order to pass my quiz! I am very excited to be able to learn from someone who knows Creole very well rather than just trying to teach myself some Creole vocabulary without knowing the proper way to use it. It is also great to learn the correct way to pronounce the words. I hope that by the time the course is over I’ll be able to carry a simple conversation with a Haitian and then build on that so I can become fluent with their language!
