Spiders

I had forgotten to write about an incident that happened the day that we returned. After I walked into my room and dropped my bags off I went into the bathroom. The first thing I noticed was a huge spider on the ceiling above the shower. This thing was about four inches in diameter. I immediately went to my room to grab some Ortho Home Defense and sprayed it. The spider dropped from the ceiling and I believe it dropped with it's webbing to keep it from freefalling. Even so, it still made a thump when it hit the tub. I couldn't believe it. It wasn't a tarantula, but it wasn't a starving spider either. It has to be one of the biggest spiders I have seen inside my house. The only other one that compares was one I saw one early morning. I had gotten up and was in the kitchen. I had already made coffee and my roommate Jonny was sitting in a chair in the kitchen next to the entryway that leads to my room. Standing right in the entry way was a spider who had to have come from either my room, Jonny's room or the bathroom. It started running into the kitchen so I ran into my room to get the bug killer. I came back out and Jonny said it had gone toward our cabinets. I found it and sprayed it. It took off running so I continued to spray it. It eventually slowed down and died. Again, this one was probably just as big. There are a lot of bugs in Haiti so it makes sense that the spiders would be big. They get to eat a lot and all year long since it doesn't freeze here. Part of me wants to catch the spider and put it back outside to take care of all the other bugs. I hear that they like to eat the cockroaches (waterbugs) which I dislike even more. As for the lizards, I wish they would do a little better job. They seem to be everywhere as well, but now that it is cooler (between 70 and 80) they don't seem to come out as much.
