10/31/08

For school today, I had my normal classes except for my last class. We had a movie day today which means that the last two hours of the day, I took the freshman and sophomores to the preschool room and watched a movie. My classroom doesn’t have shades or curtains so it was too bright to stay in there. We ended up watching National Treasure. I found it funny to overhear some of the students acting as if it was a bit overboard considering the amount of attention the stolen Declaration of Independence document had gotten in the movie. Every American, for the most part, has an understanding of its value, however it just seemed obnoxious to them to have so many FBI agents and police chasing after a “map” as the movie describes as being on the back of the document.

After school, I went back and was helping Farah and Gerdeley with some homework problems. They then started asking me about some of their reading homework. Just a few minutes later Bedya showed up wanting more computer lessons, so we went upstairs to my classroom and she got started. A couple minutes later, Fritz, another of my Advanced Math students, came in with his laptop so I got him started on some typing lessons as well. It is strange how one student has a laptop (though it is over 5 years old) and another student has never used a computer before. Hopefully, by the end of the year, they will both be fluent with their computer skills and can find a job much easier as most of the world requires computer literacy.

After my tutoring lesson, I hurried home to change since we had a Halloween party to go to. I was very excited because one of the teachers lent me a hat that I could wear as my costume. This isn’t any old hat, but one with long blond hair coming out the sides. It was great. I had some of the Haitians wearing it and it looked very funny on them. Below is a picture of me with it and a couple other pictures of the other missionaries and their costumes. Because of our limit with internet usage, I can only upload a few.

I could have guessed your costume, you always look so good in a wig and hat :)
