12/07/08

This past week, Luc, one of the Haitian employees at Sonlight had been sick and didn't show up all week for work. I think that Luc was one of the first Sonlight employees I remember meeting at Sonlight during my first visit. Now, I see him every day and he always has me laughing because of his sense of humor. He loves joking around with people and always seems to have a smile on his face.

Since he had been sick, after church today John asked me if I wanted to go visit him so we went right after the first service was over. I had never been to his house and found out that he doesn't live too far away. We walked there in about 3 minutes or so and found him sitting outside his house. He looked a little worn out, but it was good to see that he was outside. He mentioned that his knees were aching and that he felt weak. He also told us that he had malaria and typhoid fever. Fortunately, I have not had either illness, so I cannot even imagine having both. Also, to see a Haitian out sick for a week seems odd to me because they have an incredible amount of endurance so I know it wasn't anything minor since he had been gone so long.

Though he wasn't feeling well, he seemed that he was on the road to recovery so that was good. We didn't stay too long, but before we left John prayed for him and then we went on our way. On the walk back home, John mentioned that it probably drives Luc crazy to be gone because he loves the school so much and I have to agree. I hope he can return soon not only because that will mean his health is better, but because it will be great to see his familiar face every day.
