Today seemed incredibly hot. It really wasn’t much hotter than normal, but there was no wind and the humidity seemed hotter than normal. Then, to top it off, the generator was making a strange sound so it was shut off early in the morning. I knew it was hot when my Haitian students started asking if I could turn on the ceiling fans. Unfortunately, I couldn’t because the power was off. After my first class, Bedya asked if she should stop by at 3PM for computer lessons. I told her that I would have to meet up later in the week since the power wasn’t on.
At about 9:00PM I heard John start up the small generator and I lost a little hope as I figured that we were going to be running on minimum power as we had been through before. I regained a little hope though as I found Roger still working on the generator inside. John had just hooked up the generator and got it ready in case the big generator would not start. It turns out that the fuel injector pump was going bad and it required a specific tool to take off the bolts, they were torx bolts for those of you who want to know, and the specific sizes that were needed were broken so we couldn’t take it off and replace it. Roger ended up replacing a spring inside and that must have been what was needed. About 15 minutes after I made my rounds of telling everyone to unplug everything in their homes and the generator was back on! I was glad to turn right around and deliver the good news. Everyone was very happy!
