10/11/08

I woke this morning around 5:00AM so I could get to say goodbye to my church group that was here visiting. They had to be at Roger and Norma’s by 5:00AM to have breakfast. It wasn’t but about 5:20AM and everyone was packing up to leave for the airport. Since there were so many people here, John couldn’t get everyone in the back of his truck so he made two trips. Well, about 10 minutes later he came back on a taxi because his truck broke down on the way back, so we had to round everyone up and get a taxi for each person. Taxi drivers here drive mopeds, so only one person can ride on a taxi, unless you are Haitian. They seem to have incredible talent. I have heard of several people being on a taxi. I have even heard of people carrying barrels over their head. How they keep from falling off I will never know. So, one by one I watched my group leave to go back to the States. It was great having them here and the time seemed to fly by. Hopefully, I will get to see everyone when I come home for Christmas.

About ten minutes later I rounded up a tool box, grabbed a taxi and headed over to John’s car. I thought it was strange to find myself around 6AM to be on a taxi, but then life here starts so early for everyone. Of course, it doesn’t matter where you go in the world, you can always find someone awake. However, here, it seems as if nearly everyone gets up between 4:00AM – 5:00AM. About a half hour later I was riding back with John in his truck. It wasn’t much of a problem; I guess there was just some air in one of the fuel lines.
