Other thoughts

I was thinking one day before I left for Haiti about how much my family means to me and how blessed we are. It’s strange… we all get stressed out about things we want to change, things about ourselves and things about others. The list is endless of the things that can get in the way. The thing is that regardless of all this stuff, we all love each other immensely. For this I am very thankful.

Though this may not have any relation to my trip to Haiti itself, it is worth sharing. For one, it is an important reminder to tell those that you love, how much they mean to you. Also, I hope this reminds you all of your families and how important they are to you. It’s important to stop from time to time each day to think about your family and friends because it is those times when we are together that we are our happiest.

One more thing…

Some people often wonder why they have so many struggles and why their life seems so difficult. I often wonder why I have been blessed so much when I don’t deserve anymore than anyone else. One of the only responses that I can come up with to this is to share with others those things I have been blessed with. Coming to Haiti is something I have been wanting to do for some time and now I have the opportunity. I know that I am only able to be here because of all of you who have supported me in the countless acts of generosity whether it be your encouragement, your friendship, mentoring, financial gifts, prayers, etc. I want you to know that I am grateful for all your help with this trip. As I look around my surroundings I know that without you I wouldn’t have the food to eat that I do, electricity to run the pump for our water, nor a bed to sleep in. I realize that it is a luxury to be down here and that at any moment things could change. I was just wondering today where our neighbors get their water to drink. I wonder if everyone has a bed to sleep in. I then remember how fortunate all of us are to have supporters back in the States who take their hard earned wages and turn over a portion to us so we can reach the people of Haiti.

Thank you
